Restylane® can be used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including the lines that run from your nose toward the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds) and the lines that run from the corners of your mouth toward the chin (marionette lines).
The active ingredient in Restylane® is derived from hyaluronic acid, which is a natural sugar found in the skin. Its function in the skin is to maintain volume and pliability. The unique property of this acid is its ability to bind with water molecules up to 1000 times its original size, making it an excellent choice for a filler. Because it can bind with water, it is extremely safe when eliminated with regular body waste over time.
Restylane® is injected into the fine lines of the face or the lips with a very small syringe and results are instantaneous and pain-free. Patients have been much more satisfied with Restylane® than collagen because it can last up to 60% longer. Clinical trials showed results from Restylane® injections to be effective for up to 6 months for lips and 12 months for facial grooves.
