Allergic Reactions to Covid 19 Vaccine for People with Fillers Explained

ABC7’s More in the Morning crew spoke with Dr. Michael Kim about a possible allergic reactions to the Covid 19 vaccine for people who have fillers. It’s important to note, there have only been three cases of this reaction, and there is no reason to be alarmed or to worry.

The allergic reaction seems to be localized swelling of the "filled" area, specifically the lips. Do not delay or avoid the Covid 19 vaccine.

The solution, if you have an allergic reaction to the Covid 19 Vaccine due to facial fillers, is Hyaluronidase.

Hyaluronidase injections are used to reduce or remove hyaluronic acid fillers. Treatment with hyaluronidase speeds the natural breakdown of these types of fillers. Hyaluronidase is a naturally occurring enzyme in our tissue that modifies our own hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronidase injections are considered very safe and have been used for years for non-cosmetic purposes in medicine before being used in cosmetic surgery to reverse HA fillers.
