How Fat pockets in your eyelids Make you look tired

ABC7’s The More in the Morning team spoke with Dr. Michael K. Kim, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, about how a tired appearance can be caused by several different factors and some treatments that may help.

Under-eye bags, loose and wrinkled lower eyelid skin and dark circles can make the whole face look tired. Dr. Michael K. Kim offers both surgical and non-surgical procedures to help combat this problem area.

The first place to start might be Restylane, an injectable filler, to smooth out the contour of the lower eyelid. Restylane can help to improve the couture of the lower lids and remove dark circles, but not everyone is a good candidate for facial fillers.

The surgical treatment for under-eye bags and dark circles is an upper and/or lower eyelid blepharoplasty. The eyelids often are the first area of the face to show signs of aging. Over time, the upper eyelids develop excess hanging skin which causes the lids to drop and the eyelids to be obscured. Droopy upper eyelids are corrected with an incision made within the natural crease of the lid, allowing a repositioning of fat deposits, tightening of muscles and tissue, and removal of excess skin.

Under eye-bags develop when the fat pads under the eyes bulge and expand, making the lids look puffy and tired. Laxity of the lower eyelid skin and underlying muscle also causes bags and lower eyelid hollows to develop. For lower blepharoplasty, Dr. Michael K. Kim will make small incisions below your eyelashes and then tighten the excess skin and muscle, creating a more vibrant and youthful appearance.

The eyebrows also play an important role in the aging of the upper eyelids. Therefore, many patients opt for an endoscopic brow lift in conjunction with lower blepharoplasty. Dr. Michael K. Kim will evaluate the contours and individual characteristics of your entire face so that your eyelid rejuvenation blends perfectly with the rest of your face to achieve a fantastic, natural-looking result.
