Plastic surgeons are seeing more cosmetic patients around the world.
Around the world, cosmetic surgery is becoming even more popular despite the coronavirus pandemic. Plastic surgeons are seeing more than their usual numbers of patients. Here, Dr. Michael K. Kim gives his take on why that might be.
Essentially, many people are opting to perform facial cosmetic surgery because they know that have to stay home anyway and have enough time to recover without the risk of seeing anyone.
Has Covid influenced how doctors see patients?
For certain. Despite there being no national or international mandate or guidelines regarding elective procedures, most doctors have stepped up their safety efforts by ensuring a sterile office, wearing masks and making sure that contact is kept to a minimum. Dr. Kim recommends to his patients that they self-isolate for 10 days and even getting a Covid test before any procedure where the patient will go under general anesthesia. Of course they screen for symptoms. Currently there are no restrictions for outpatient surgeries becasue they do not require the patient to stay in a hospital. A big concern within the medical field is actually being hospitalized.
