Restylane® Kysse™

Restylane Kysse

Designed to create softer, more natural-looking lips.

The first lip filler with XpresHAn Technology™ for natural-looking volume and Kysse-able softness. Restylane Kysse is injected into the lips and the lines around the upper lip to temporarily add fullness to the lips and help smooth the wrinkles around the upper lip (perioral lines) in patients over the age of 21. The new filler changes the way that hyaluronic acid binds inside your lips. The hyaluronic acid binds to itself, so it stretches, and then goes back to its prior space. When you're talking, smiling, kissing, it has the ability to integrate into the tissue where it's injected and mold to your tissue. It becomes one with your lips.

Patient testimony is that Kysse felt more natural, in addition to looking more natural.

How is Restylane Kysse used?

Restylane Kysse is injected with an ultrafine needle into your lips to add fullness. It can also be injected into the skin above your lips to help smooth the wrinkles around your upper lip (perioral lines).

What will Restylane Kysse do for me?

Restylane Kysse will temporarily add volume to the lips and help smooth the wrinkles above your mouth.

Restylane Kysse was studied in many subjects like yourself to determine if it was effective and to ensure that it is safe for use.

The study doctors reported:

  • 77% (129/168) of subjects had at least a 1-point improvement in lip fullness 6 months after treatment
  • 60% (101/169) of subjects had at least a 1-point improvement in lip fullness 12 months after treatment

The subjects reported:

  • 88% (148/169) rated an improvement in the appearance 6 months after treatment
  • 78% (132/169) rated an improvement in the appearance 12 months after treatment

How much does Restylane Kysse cost?

The cost of one syringe is $700, but it's been found that roughly 20% less product is needed compared to other lip filler products. One syringe goes a long way for our typical filler patient, which means if Kysse works for you, you will pay less money for a filler that lasts longer.

What precautions should my doctor discuss with me?

    • The use of Restylane Kysse where skin sores, pimples, rashes, hives, cysts, or infections are present should be postponed until healing is complete. Use of Restylane Kysse where these are present could delay healing or make your skin problems worse.
    • As with any injection procedure, you may have a higher risk of bruising or bleeding at the injection site if you have a bleeding disorder.
    • Tell Dr. Michael K. Kim if you are using St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E supplements, aspirin, and other NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, because these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site.
    • Tell Dr. Michael K. Kim if you are planning other skin therapies such as laser, mechanical or chemical peeling, microneedling and hair removal after treatment. The use of Restylane Kysse with these skin therapies may lead to other side effects such as inflammation.
    • After treatment with Restylane Kysse, you should minimize exposure to the sun and avoid being in the heat and cold until any redness or swelling has disappeared. Exposure to any of these may cause temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection site.
    • Tell Dr. Michael K. Kim if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The safety and effectiveness of Restylane Kysse has not been established in pregnant women or nursing mothers.
    • Tell Dr. Michael K. Kim if you are on a therapy to decrease the body’s immune response. Treatment may result in an increased risk of infection.
    • Tell Dr. Michael K. Kim if you have a history of thick, hard scars (excessive scarring). The safety and effectiveness of Restylane Kysse in patients with a history of thick, hard scars has not been studied and may result in additional scarring.

Untreated muscles still work normally, so you can continue to express feelings naturally. It’s the lines that are minimized, not your expressions.

Dysport works with one injection in 5 points.

Wrinkles are caused by repeated movements and muscle contractions. One injection into each of 5 points between and above the eyebrows temporarily prevents muscle contractions that cause frown lines, leaving the rest of your face to move naturally. Facial Filler Injections

Facial Filler Injections

restylane logoRestylane® can be used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including the lines that run from your nose toward the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds) and the lines that run from the corners of your mouth toward the chin (marionette lines).

The active ingredient in Restylane® is derived from hyaluronic acid, which is a natural sugar found in the skin. Its function in the skin is to maintain volume and pliability. The unique property of this acid is its ability to bind with water molecules up to 1000 times its original size, making it an excellent choice for a filler. Because it can bind with water, it is extremely safe when eliminated with regular body waste over time.

Restylane® is injected into the fine lines of the face or the lips with a very small syringe and results are instantaneous and pain-free. Patients have been much more satisfied with Restylane® than collagen because it can last up to 60% longer. Clinical trials showed results from Restylane® injections to be effective for up to 6 months for lips and 12 months for facial grooves.

radiesse logoRadiesse FN™ is a cosmetic filler applied through injection for recontouring and lifting cheeks, smoothing the jawline, lifting the brow, and straightening the nose. The main advantage of this product is the long lasting effects it maintains compared to other fillers.

Radiesse FN™ consists of calcium hydroxylapatite suspended in gel (carboxymethycellulose). Because calcium hydroxylapatite is a normal constituent of bone, in most cases it should not elicit an immune response or allergy.

Although it sounds intimidating, calcium hydroxylapatite has been used for prosthetic implants in dental, facial, and orthopedic surgery. The longest term studies come from Italy and suggest that Radiesse FN™ shows promise as a new agent for facial contouring with no serious side effects and reasonable efficacy and durability.

There’s never been a better time to seek treatment for the correction of facial lines and wrinkles due to aging.

Fixing Wrinkles

Get your lips back

The quick solution to get rid of your wrinkles! One of the latest weapons in the armamentarium of anti-aging is a chemical agent called BOTOX®. Look for your active wrinkle lines in your brow and around your eyes. These wrinkles may give you that angry look. These animation lines are caused by facial muscle contractions that we use to express our emotions. As we age, these lines become engraved into our faces as wrinkles, lending character and personality, but are also signs of our advancing age. BOTOX® temporarily softens these bothersome animation lines in the brow, around the eyes, and even along the neck.

In the past decade, BOTOX® has found great uses in medicine for stroke victims, ophthalmology and most recently aesthetic surgery. It is very safe. The agent works by blocking nerve impulses as they approach the facial muscle causing the animation lines. BOTOX® is injected through a tiny needle into specific facial muscles which cause the wrinkles to disappear. The procedure takes under a minute. You will feel brief discomfort during the injection only. There is no recovery time. The BOTOX® begins working in three to seven days. It lasts initially between three and four months. Upon repeated injections, the effect may be longer and up to six months. As the effect begins to wear off, the injection is repeated. It takes two to four injections per year to maintain the result.

What is the difference between Botox® and Dysport®?

Both Dysport and Botox are types of neurotoxins that block muscle contractions. While both injections are sometimes used to treat spasms from neurological disorders and other medical conditions, they’re more widely used as facial wrinkle treatments. They’re both derived from botulinum toxins, which are safe in small amounts.

These noninvasive injections help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by relaxing the underlying muscles beneath the skin. By relaxing and stilling the muscles, the skin above them turns smoother. Dysport is primarily used to treat glabella wrinkles. Frown lines can make you look older and stern. They are caused by small muscles between your eyebrows and in your forehead, an area called the glabella. Frowning and squinting contract those muscles, almost as if you are deliberately exercising them. Dypsport is meant for people who have either moderate or severe cases of glabella wrinkles.

The number of units your doctor will use depends on the area being treated and desired results. These are the recommended dosages by treatment area:

  • Glabellar lines: 20 total units, 5 injection sites
  • Glabellar and forehead lines: 40 total units, 10 injection sites
  • Crow’s feet: 24 total units, 6 injection sites
  • All three types of wrinkles combined: 64 units

Picking the Right Plastic Surgeon

Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal

One of the newer interests in the realm of cosmetic surgery involves the removal of hair using lasers. Currently, the favored method of hair removal is electrolysis, which accounts for almost a billion dollar market in the United States. In America, over one million women undergo electrolysis and probably spend an average of $1,000.00 per year on an average of twenty-seven procedures. The interest in lasers, in part, is due to the fact that lasers allow a much quicker, easier, and less painful resolution to decrease unwanted hair.

In order to better understand how laser hair removal works, it is essential to understand the general anatomy and biology of hair. Hairs come from hair follicles. The bulb is generally about 4 mm in depth from the surface of the skin. The hairs undergo a growth cycle, which is extremely important in treating patients for laser hair removal. The basic three growth phases include the anagen phase, the transition or catagen phase, and the resting (telogen) phase. During the growth phase, hair grows rapidly from the hair shaft and this is the time period where hair is most sensitive to the effects of laser. During the transitional stage, the hair follicles regress and finally, in the resting phase, the hairs fall out and new hair can replace it in a new hair cycle. The duration of the resting phase varies in various parts of the body and may be as long as one year on the leg. It is during the anagen or growth phase, where the pigment in the hair follicles has its largest content, making them most susceptible to laser treatment. It is for this reason to understand that laser does not remove all hair at one session, but can only destroy the hair follicles in the anagen phase at that time.

There are various lasers for hair removal, but in general, the Ruby laser, Alexandrite laser, and Diode lasers all attack the pigment of melanin, which resides in the hair follicle. By destroying the hair follicles in the anagen phase, the amount of hair in the area desired for removal is significantly decreased. Because the laser attacks pigment in the hair follicles, the optimal patient, is a patient with very light skin and dark hair. On the other hand, a very dark patient with very light skin is not a very good candidate for laser hair removal.

Once it is decided that a patient is a good candidate for laser hair removal, the sessions are relatively quick. A treatment of an upper lip, for example, takes less than one minute. Because laser only attacks the hair during its growth phase, one needs to wait until there is regrowth of hair before lasering the area again, which generally takes anywhere from one to three months. After lasering the area of treatment, most patients experience a little bit of sunburn-type feeling with some redness, but that generally disappears within one day. The complications of laser hair removal are few, and the most common are hyper pigmentation or dark spots in the areas of lasering, which is relatively rare, and usually, resolves within six months. As far as the number of treatments required for each area, it varies from patient to patient, but in general, anywhere from three to six treatments may be necessary. It must also be remembered that laser does not remove all hair, but removes all the pigmented hair and one is generally left with very fine hair that is nearly invisible. Most patients are extremely happy with the results from laser hair removal.

It is also important to make sure that you are a good candidate for laser hair removal. The most common areas to be lasered are the underarms, upper lip, chin, and bikini line, in addition to legs and back.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do Candela's laser Hair Removal treatments take, and how many treatments will I require?

Treatment times may vary depending on your specific needs. Hair growth is reduced after each treatment and the number of treatments required will be based on your hair color and type, body area and skin tone.

What precautions should I take throughout this process?

Avoid sun exposure at least two weeks before treatment. Do not bleach, pluck or wax 4 to 6 weeks before and after treatment. Wait for tanned skin to fade before beginning treatment.

Are laser hair removal treatments painful?

Candela's Laser Hair Removal treatments use a patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™), which prepares the skin for treatment by spraying the upper layer with a cooling burst of cryogen in adjustable durations—milliseconds before the laser pulse. DCD helps ensure that the treatments are as comfortable as they are effective.

What are Candela's Laser Hair Removal treatments like?

Laser energy is delivered through a small handpiece operated by your practitioner. The laser delivers an intense beam of light, which is absorbed by the skin and converted to heat. The heat is then absorbed by the cells being targeted, while the surrounding tissue remains unaffected. Your skin may be slightly red immediately following the procedure. This typically lasts from a few minutes to several hours after the procedure.

Are Candela's laser Hair Removal treatments safe, and are there any side effects?

Laser and light-based treatments have been safely used for many years for a variety of medical and cosmetic procedures.
