Renuvion®
Skin Tightening & Body Contouring In Fort Myers, FL By Dr. Michael K. Kim
What is Renuvion®?
Renuvion® is one of the most effective, minimally invasive skin tightening innovations on the market today. Renuvion has been producing remarkable results for the last 6 years among those who desire an improvement in their body contouring.
Renuvion is a new technology that uses radiofrequency and cold helium plasma to shrink wrap tissue, contract collagen, and ultimately stimulate new collagen production. This action results in a smoothing of wrinkles, reduction in skin laxity and sagging, and overall improvement of body contouring. Renuvion is most often paired with surgical procedures, such as liposuction, in order to address yet another aspect of the skin-tightening challenge and accelerate the body’s ability to achieve the best aesthetic result. Renuvion results can last for years, thanks to the stimulation of new collagen. Renuvion shows amazing results in patients across a variety of age groups, offering a tightened and more youthful appearance, and to be used safely throughout the body in a wide variety of areas.
Renuvion is the only device that has been FDA approved in 2022 for use after liposuction and the only device cleared for contracting subcutaneous tissue. Dr. Michael K. Kim has been successfully employing this technology for many of his patients, especially after a liposuction procedure, to ensure the best post-operative results.
How Renuvion Works
A subdermal Renuvion procedure takes about an hour. Here’s what to expect on the day of your procedure.
- Depending on the size of the treatment area, you’ll receive either general anesthesia (you’ll be completely asleep) or a local anesthetic, possibly with oral or IV sedation to keep you relaxed and comfortable.
- Your doctor will make a small incision and insert the long, thin cannula under the skin.
- They’ll move the cannula back and forth as RF energy ionizes the helium gas, turning it into a stream of cool plasma that contracts existing collagen fibers and stimulates new collagen production.
- When your treatment is complete, you’ll recover from the anesthesia and be monitored to ensure you’re stable.
Renuvion is designed to treat loose skin directly at the source: the collagen and elastin fibers in the dermal layer of the skin. Loose skin is caused by the breakdown of collagen-rich tissue, which is one of the key factors contributing to a loss of skin elasticity. Often, unwanted loose skin is a result of weight loss, post-pregnancy body adjustments, aging, but also the effect of undergoing liposuction. While liposuction is effective at removing stubborn fat, it doesn’t address the loose skin that often results from aging or weight loss. Sometimes, a reduction in fat volume can actually worsen skin laxity.
The Renuvion procedure addresses loose skin using a multifaceted approach. The Renuvion wand is inserted under the skin, using a unique combination of radiofrequency energy and cold helium plasma to target that collagen-rich tissue. This energy contracts those collagen fibers, pulling the skin closer to the muscle for a smooth, contoured appearance in just minutes.
Renuvion’s use of cold helium cools the skin, so there is less thermal injury to the superficial skin and a lower risk of burns than body contouring treatments that rely on heat alone. The heating is so superficial and the contraction so significant that the treated area cools to baseline in less than a second, and almost no heat is absorbed into the upper dermis of the skin. So even though the helium plasma heats the subdermal space more than other similar devices, there is less risk of burn or other unintended injury.
Depending on the number of areas being treated and your discussed anesthesia plan, Renuvion for Body Contouring recovery can be from a few days to a few weeks. Healing from subdermal Renuvion happens from the inside out. You can expect mild swelling and bruising, and your doctor may recommend wearing a compression garment on the treated area for four to six weeks to promote healing and reduce swelling. Like any procedure, your treatment plan and recovery expectations should always be discussed with your healthcare provider, taking into account your unique needs.
Renuvion® Before & After
Applications
Facial Renewal - The first major advancement in decades of skin treatments for the face, Renuvion smooths and contracts the skin by applying cold helium plasma energy to a very thin layer of skin. The physician can address all aspects of the face as well as the chin and neck areas.
Body Contouring – Renuvion is a versatile technology that is FDA-cleared to treat loose skin anywhere, as needed, all over the body. Common treatment areas include the pectoral area or breasts, arms, abdomen, back and bra roll, and legs (inner thighs and knees). Especially in conjunction with surgical procedures like liposuction, these commonly targeted areas show major improvement in the tightening effects that Renuvion is known to deliver.
Some of the most successful and popular areas to target are the back roll, abdominal areas, and throughout the arms, as they are a great option for patients who would benefit from an upper body lift but do not want to have a large scar across their upper back.
Benefits of Renuvion Treatments
The benefits of the Renuvion procedure speak for themselves: a 20-60 minute procedure that can pull skin tighter and tighter over several months, that lasts for years. The underpinnings of anatomical structures are addressed from every angle and ensure that a patient has the most pleasing aesthetic contour for their frame, with the recovery time similar to any minimally invasive procedure.
